Watercolour Illustrations. Surface pattern design.

Hello! Thanks a lot for visiting me!

NEW WATERCOLOUR ILLUSTRATIONS FOR KIDS

I have been designing geometric and floral textiles patterns digitally for years, vector ones.
Last year I was surprised to see so many watercolors prints in everywhere, iphone cases, fashion, home products...This fact it made me think about my portfolio.

Although I studied illustration and fashion design for 5 years practicing lots of artistic painting techniques like gouaches, acrylics, oil painting, pastel when I was young, the truth it is that it has been lots of years years since I had not spent time drawing with them.

I was a little tired of spending all my time in front of my computer screen. I have been addicted to it, designing, using social media, promoting, reading tutorials, opening accounts at pod sites…I didn´t realize the big amount of time needed for all this.

Luckily, I have lost the 5 kilos I gained for having such a sedentary life!(I am going to find time to take care of my food and to be fit too)

I was worried for some weeks, thinking that nowadays artistic or handcrafted artworks made by hand, are most valued and trending than digital work and that I didn´t have watercolour prints to offer to any brand.

Really I felt that as designer I had to have more hand, artistic work in my portfolio, to show my creativity.

The amount of artists using watercolour it is amazing, gorgeous works which show they have an absolute control of this technique. Rather frustrating trying to use watercolours knowing that I am not an expert of it.

But I thought I could use watercolors in a way it was easier for me. I thought  it would be easier for me to keep the style for children I used to have when I was younger.  Really I am happy with the results.

I enjoyed it so much painting these illustrations that I have decided to create like a serie. The worst part for me it is to scan them and clean them at photoshop, as I used a texturized paper.

But the best part of it, it is discover the fast it is for me to make a illustration, and it is so regarding  to have one finished illustration in a couple of hours.
Some of them were very fast to do as I didn´t use nor a pencil to sketch them first.
So happy to open my horizon and to feel I can covert more styles. I am opened an account at Saatchi art web to sell this kind of illustrations outright and althought I have only  a few of them on sale, it is a very good motivation for creating many more.

By the way in July I was featured at Print &pattern blog, just with these new illustrations which it has made me very glad.

I have designed some patterns with my watercolour icons, and I would like to create many more. This is one of the latest which I have entered at a Minted gift wrap paper contest.

Hope you like my work and to see you again!

  1. Hello Julia, your watercolours are very nice and you have your own style. If you work with a kind of paper with less texture, perhaps you can avoid to spend much time cleaning your works in Photoshop. This sort of watercolour paper is the named "hot pressed". Keep doing the good painting. :)
